Using Nubric: overview
Reading time: 4minUse this overview to find the main areas of Nubric and choose how to create, reuse, and manage quizzes. It also shows where to share materials with other educators and prepare printable activities. For detailed instructions, follow the links to the relevant guides.
What It Is
The Nubric workspace connects your quizzes, question editors, shared content, and organization tools. Its main navigation areas are:
- My Quizzes: Create, edit, preview, and manage your quizzes, and access materials saved from the Content Bank.
- Content Bank: Find and reuse quizzes shared with the Nubric community or within your organization.
- My center: View your organization and access the management options available to your role.
Within a quiz, the quiz editor lets you manage its questions. The question editor lets you configure an individual question's statement, answers, scoring, feedback, and settings.

Why It Matters
You can create questions manually, generate them with AI, or adapt existing materials. Each route leads to a quiz whose questions you can review and configure before using it with students.
Knowing where each task belongs helps you move between creating content, checking its behavior, and preparing it for your class.
How It Works
Manage your materials in My Quizzes
Open My Quizzes to create a quiz or continue editing an existing one.
- Created quizzes contains your own quizzes, including editable copies made from the Content Bank.
- Saved quizzes contains shared quizzes you bookmarked for later use.
Selecting Create a new quiz opens an empty quiz in the editor. You can add questions and change its title there, without entering a title beforehand.
Choose how to create your content
The My Quizzes page provides three starting points:
.png)
| Starting point | Use it to | Continue with |
|---|---|---|
| Build from scratch | Create a quiz with an Open Answer question ready to edit, then configure its content, answers, and grading. | Configure an open-answer question or Configure a multiple-choice question. |
| Generate with AI | Generate questions from a prompt, then review and edit the results. | Generate questions with AI in Nubric. |
| Discover quizzes | Find existing quizzes in the Content Bank and reuse or adapt them. | Use the Public Content Bank or Use the Organization Content Bank. |
Review and configure questions
Regardless of how a question was created, review its statement, answers, scoring, and feedback in the question editor.
- Open Answer: Students enter a mathematical expression or numerical value. Evaluation settings determine which responses are accepted.
- Multiple Choice: Students select an option. The selected option determines the score and any answer-specific feedback.
Use the preview to test the question before using the quiz with students. For randomized questions, test several generated versions.
For an explanation of these components, see Understanding questions in Nubric.
For questions that require advanced logic, use Algorithm Mode to define generation rules and calculations. See Understanding Algorithm Mode in Nubric.
Reuse shared content from the Content Bank
The Content Bank provides access to two shared spaces:
- Public Content Bank: Quizzes shared with the wider Nubric community.
- Organization Content Bank: Quizzes shared within your active organization. This space is available to organizations with a PRO plan.
Open a quiz's overview to review its questions, or use the preview to try them before deciding whether to save the quiz or create an editable copy.
Saving a quiz bookmarks the shared material. Creating an editable copy gives you an independent version to adapt. If the owner deletes the shared original or makes it private, its bookmark becomes unavailable; an editable copy you already created remains separate.
See Use the Public Content Bank and Use the Organization Content Bank.
Work with your organization in My center
Open My center to view your active organization and its members. Organization management options depend on your role.
Access to PRO features depends on the applicable plan. Permission to manage organization members depends on your role in the active organization.
See Manage members and roles in My Center.
Share a quiz with other educators
Open a quiz's Share menu and select Share with my peers to choose who can access the material. You can share through a link, publish in the Public Content Bank, or publish in your organization's Content Bank.
You can return to the sharing settings to change visibility or make the quiz private.
Print a quiz
Select Share > Print quiz to open a printable version with space for students to write their answers. You can include an answer key as additional pages and regenerate randomized questions before printing.
Select Print to print the document or save it as PDF through the print dialog.
Key Rules or Behaviours
- Questions are created and edited within a quiz.
- Create a new quiz opens an empty quiz; Build from scratch opens a new quiz with an Open Answer question ready to edit.
- Saving a Content Bank quiz and creating an editable copy are different actions.
- Questions generated with AI remain editable and should be reviewed before use.
- The Organization Content Bank is available to members of the active organization with a PRO plan.
- Organization management permissions depend on the user's role.
- The printable document can include an answer key as additional pages at the end.
Examples
The guided tutorials provide worked examples of the workflows described in this overview. Choose a starting point according to what you want to learn.
Get started with Nubric
Follow the introductory tutorials to create your first quiz and explore the main ways to create or reuse content.
See Start creating quizzes with Nubric.
Build and configure questions
Follow a sequence of worked examples that build progressively on one another. These tutorials cover Open Answer and Multiple Choice questions, evaluation requirements, units, partial credit, and randomization.
See Build from scratch: guided tutorials.
Apply advanced logic with Algorithm Mode
Explore worked examples that use Algorithm Mode to control random generation, apply mathematical constraints, and produce questions with specific solution properties.
See Algorithm Mode: guided tutorials.
Common Misunderstandings
Saving a quiz makes it editable
Saving bookmarks the shared quiz. To change its content, create an editable copy.
AI-generated questions use a separate editing workflow
You can review and change AI-generated questions in the question editor, including their answers, evaluation settings, and feedback.
PRO access grants organization management permissions
PRO features depend on the applicable plan. Organization management permissions depend on the user's role.
