How Learning Lemur integrates with Google Classroom
Reading time: 2minLearning Lemur integrates with Google Classroom to help teachers assign quizzes to students more efficiently. Depending on your institution’s Google plan, you can either use the Learning Lemur Google Classroom add-on for a fully embedded workflow or assign quizzes through learninglemur.com using a share-and-assign flow.
What It Is
The Learning Lemur integration with Google Classroom is a set of workflows that connect Learning Lemur quizzes with Google Classroom assignments. This integration allows teachers to:
- Create and manage quizzes in Learning Lemur
- Deliver quizzes to students through Google Classroom
- Let students access quizzes from their Classroom assignments
- Track student attempts in Learning Lemur
Learning Lemur supports two main integration methods in Google Classroom:
- Google Classroom add-on integration (embedded inside Classroom)
- Assignment flow without the add-on (managed from https://learninglemur.com/)
Why It Matters
Many teachers use Google Classroom as the central place where students receive assignments and submit work. Without integration, assigning interactive math quizzes typically requires manual link sharing, duplicated workflows, and additional setup steps. The Learning Lemur integration reduces this friction by:
- Keeping quiz delivery aligned with the teacher's existing Classroom workflow
- Reducing the number of tools and tabs needed during assignment creation
- Making it easier for students to access quizzes from a familiar environment
- Supporting more consistent tracking of quiz usage and attempts
How It Works
Stage 1: Quiz availability in Learning Lemur
A quiz is created and stored in Learning Lemur. This quiz acts as the source of truth for:
- Question content
- Random variables and generation logic
- Evaluation rules
- Quiz settings
Stage 2: Assignment connection to Google Classroom
Learning Lemur creates a connection between the quiz and a Google Classroom assignment using one of two approaches:
Option A: Add-on workflow (embedded)
When using the add-on:
- The teacher opens Learning Lemur inside the Google Classroom assignment editor
- The teacher selects or creates a quiz
- The quiz is attached directly to the assignment
This workflow is designed to keep the teacher inside Google Classroom.
Option B: Without add-on (assign from Learning Lemur)
When add-ons are not available:
- The teacher works at https://learninglemur.com/
- The teacher selects Assign to my students
- The teacher chooses a Google Classroom class
- Learning Lemur generates the assignment in Google Classroom
This workflow works for all teachers, regardless of add-on availability.
Stage 3: Student access and quiz attempt
Students access the quiz from Google Classroom by opening the assignment. Learning Lemur then:
- Loads the quiz attempt
- Generates random variables (if present)
- Evaluates student answers according to the configured rules
Key Rules or Behaviours
- The add-on workflow is only available for institutions with supported Google for Education plans
- The “assign from Learning Lemur” workflow works even when add-ons are not supported
- Quizzes remain managed in Learning Lemur, even when delivered through Google Classroom
- Random variables are generated per student attempt, so students may receive different values
- Authorization and permissions can affect the integration; if permissions become invalid, teachers may need to reconnect
Examples
Example 1: Using the add-on for faster assignment creation
A teacher creates an assignment in Google Classroom and uses the Learning Lemur add-on to attach a quiz without leaving the Classroom interface. The quiz is immediately linked to the assignment and ready for students.
Example 2: Assigning without add-ons
A teacher whose institution does not support Classroom add-ons creates a quiz on learninglemur.com and uses the “Assign to my students” option. Learning Lemur creates the assignment in Google Classroom so students can access the quiz normally.
Common Misunderstandings
Misconception: The Google Classroom add-on is required to use Learning Lemur with Classroom
Clarification: Learning Lemur can be used with Google Classroom even without add-ons by assigning quizzes from learninglemur.com.
Misconception: Quizzes are stored in Google Classroom after they are assigned
Clarification: Quizzes are created and managed in Learning Lemur. Google Classroom acts as the delivery environment.
