Understanding plans and organizations in Nubric

                      Reading time: 4min

Nubric offers different plans for individual teachers and academic institutions. Each plan determines the usage limits and features available to its users. Users can also belong to Nubric organizations. Organizations provide a shared institutional context through My center, while premium organizations add controlled membership, differentiated roles, and access to premium features.

Understanding how plans and organizations work helps teachers identify the features available to them, and enables institutions to centrally manage access to Nubric.

                      What It Is

Nubric provides three plans designed for different types of users:

                      Standard teacher

It is the free plan for individual teachers. It includes limited active quizzes and AI-generated questions, along with access to Nubric's core quiz-creation features and the Public Content Bank.

                      PRO teacher

It is intended for individual teachers who require unlimited active quizzes and AI-generated questions. It also includes technical support.

                      Organization

The Organization plan is intended for academic institutions and teaching teams. It includes the benefits of the PRO teacher plan together with controlled membership, differentiated roles, support for administrators, and additional institution-specific features.

A Nubric organization brings together users from the same institution and gives them access to My center. Organizations can be non-premium or premium.

                      • Non-premium organizations can be joined without an invitation. They do not distinguish between Admin and Teacher roles: all members have the same organization management permissions, including the ability to add or remove members.
                      • Premium organizations use invitation-only membership and distinguish between Admins, who manage the organization, and Teachers, who use its available features without managing membership. Their members can also access the premium features provided through the organization.

The following screenshot shows My center for an Admin of a premium organization. From this area, Admins can review members, their roles, and their recent activity.

                      Why It Matters

Individual teachers and academic institutions do not always have the same requirements.

The Standard teacher plan provides the essential tools required to start creating quizzes, while the PRO teacher plan removes usage limits for teachers who need to create more content or use AI question generation more frequently.

The Organization plan extends these benefits to teaching teams and provides centralized membership management. Premium organizations allow institutions to:

                      • Control who can join their Nubric organization.
                      • Provide members with the features included in the institutional plan.
                      • Assign administrative responsibilities to selected members.
                      • Add or remove members as the teaching team changes.
                      • Review the organization's members and their roles.
                      • Provide an institutional environment with restricted access.

Non-premium organizations provide access to My center, but use an open membership model without differentiated roles or the complete set of premium features.

This structure allows individual teachers to choose an appropriate plan while giving institutions different levels of organization access and management.

                      How It Works

                      Stage 1: Applying a plan

Individual teachers can use Nubric with the Standard teacher or PRO teacher plan. Academic institutions can use the Organization plan to provide premium features and controlled access to an organization for a group of teachers.

The active plan determines the features and usage limits available to the user. For example, the PRO teacher and Organization plans include unlimited active quizzes and unlimited AI-generated questions.

                      Stage 2: Joining an organization

The process for joining an organization depends on whether it is premium:

                      • Users can join a non-premium organization without an invitation.
                      • Premium organizations are invitation-only. An Admin enters the teacher's email address, assigns the Teacher or Admin role, and sends the invitation.

A pending invitation appears when the recipient logs in to Nubric. Nubric also sends it by email. The recipient can accept or decline the invitation, and invitations do not expire.

Stage 3: Working as an organization member

Organization members can access My center and view the organization and its members. The available features and management options depend on whether the organization is premium and, for premium organizations, on the member's assigned role.

Members can use Change center to move between the available centers. They can also leave an organization voluntarily through the Leave center option. Leaving an organization or being removed from it ends the user's membership in that center.

Stage 4: Managing members and roles

Premium organization members have one of two roles:

                      Teachers

They can use the features available through the organization and view its members, but they cannot manage other members.

                      Admins

They have full control over organization membership. They can invite new members, assign roles, change an existing member's role, and remove members from the organization.

The last remaining Admin cannot leave the organization, be removed, or change to the Teacher role until another Admin is assigned. Non-premium organizations do not use these differentiated roles. All members have the same membership management permissions.

                      Key Rules or Behaviours

                      • Non-premium organizations can be joined without an invitation.
                      • All members of a non-premium organization have the same organization management permissions; there is no distinction between Admin and Teacher roles.
                      • Premium organizations are invitation-only.
                      • Invitations to premium organizations assign either the Teacher or Admin role and do not expire.
                      • Teachers can view the members of a premium organization, but cannot manage them.
                      • Admins can invite members, change their roles, and remove them from a premium organization.
                      • The last remaining Admin cannot leave a premium organization until another Admin is assigned.
                      • Users with access to multiple centers can move between them using Change center.
                      • Organization membership is separate from institutional deployment through Google Workspace or an LMS.

                      Examples

                      Example 1

An individual teacher begins using Nubric with the Standard teacher plan. As they use quizzes and AI-generated questions more, they move to the PRO teacher plan to access these features without usage limits.

This change affects the features available to the teacher but does not create or manage an institutional organization.

                      Example 2

A school uses the Organization plan and invites its teachers to join its premium organization. Most members receive the Teacher role, while selected staff members receive the Admin role so they can manage access.

If an Admin’s responsibilities change, another Admin can update their role. The last remaining Admin must first assign another Admin before leaving the organization.

                      Common Misunderstandings

A PRO teacher account and an Organization plan are the same

The PRO teacher plan is designed for an individual teacher. The Organization plan is intended for institutions and provides premium features through an organization membership, including centralized membership and role management.

All Nubric organizations work in the same way

Non-premium organizations use an open membership model: users can join without an invitation, and all members have the same management permissions. Premium organizations are invitation-only and distinguish between Admin and Teacher roles.

Deploying Nubric automatically adds users to an organization

Deploying Nubric through Google Workspace or an LMS makes the application available through those platforms. Organization membership is managed separately and depends on the organization type; deployment does not automatically add teachers to an organization.

All organization members can manage membership

In non-premium organizations, all members have the same management permissions. In premium organizations, Teachers can view the organization’s members, but only Admins can invite or remove members and change their roles.
