MathType for Canvas

Type and handwrite mathematical notation in Canvas with MathType. The popular equation editor for MS Word is now seamlessly integrated into Canvas.

ChemType is a flavor of MathType designed to help you work with chemical notation. It includes a personalized toolbar with the common chemical symbols, as well as a different user experience adapted to chemical notation needs. Look for the ChemType icon.
Activation instructions
Follow these easy steps shown in the video:
The only permissions you need to include the MathType and ChemType apps in your course are teacher permissions.
- Go to Course Settings
- Go to Apps tab
- Look for ‘MathType’
- Activate the App
Basic usage
Write an equation
Click or tap the MathType 
or ChemType 
icon in the editor toolbar.
Edit an equation
Equations are treated as any other kind of object:
If you want to modify an existing equation, select it and click or tap the MathType icon. After writing or modifying the formula, click OK if you want to insert the formula as it is shown, or Cancel if you want to exit without saving changes.
- You can select an equation by either clicking it or by moving the cursor over it while holding the
SHIFTkey. - You can erase formulae by selecting them and pressing delete, or move the cursor after (before) them and press the delete (
supr) key. If you delete a formula accidentally, you can recover it by clicking on the undo icon, or pressingCTRL+Z. - You can cut, copy, and paste formulae in the usual way, by pressing
CTRL+X,CTRL+c, andCTRL+V; this is particularly useful when you have to write several formulae which are very similar. You can apply all of those editing operations to a single formula or to combinations of formulae and text, and you can paste to other MathType windows. - You can also drag&drop a formula using the mouse.
