This reference describes the default MathType toolbar tabs and the keyboard shortcuts available for toolbar navigation. It is intended for users who want to identify toolbar sections quickly and for administrators or support teams documenting the MathType interface.

                      Requirements/Prerequisites:

                      • MathType Web or a MathType integration using the standard toolbar.
                      • A keyboard if using shortcut-based toolbar navigation.

                      Concepts:

                      • Toolbar tabs: Groups of symbols, templates, and commands organized by mathematical category.
                      • Shortcut: A keyboard combination used to move directly to a toolbar tab.
                      • Symbol area: The active toolbar area where symbols and templates can be selected with the keyboard.

                      Keyboard navigation

When MathType opens, the cursor is placed in the editing area. You can use keyboard shortcuts to move from the editing area to a toolbar tab.

                      Example usage

To insert a symbol using only the keyboard:

                      1. Press Alt+1 on Windows/Linux, or Ctrl+1 on macOS, to open the General tab.
                      2. Use the arrow keys to move through the available symbols.
                      3. Press Space or Enter to insert the selected symbol.

After inserting the symbol, MathType returns to the editing area automatically.

                      Error handling:
If a shortcut does not work, check whether shortcuts are disabled in your MathType deployment or whether the host application is using the same shortcut for another action.
