Install LearningLemur in Blackboard via LTI
Reading time: 2minUse this guide if you want to integrate LearningLemur with Blackboard using LTI 1.3 / LTI Advantage, so instructors can launch quizzes directly from Blackboard courses. Following this guide, you will register LearningLemur as an LTI 1.3 tool in Blackboard and verify that instructors can launch it when creating assignments.

Before you begin
Requirements:
- Blackboard Administrator access.
- Familiarity with Blackboard administration.
- Basic understanding of LTI 1.3 concepts.
- Access to the LearningLemur LTI configuration details.
- The LearningLemur Client ID:

You must also be able to authorize data sharing between Blackboard and external tools (such as user identity and course context).
Steps
1. Open the Blackboard Admin area:
- Log in to Blackboard as an administrator.
- From the main navigation, go to Admin.
2. Open LTI Tool Providers:
- In the Admin panel, locate Integrations.
- Click LTI Tool Providers.
3. Register the LTI tool:
- Click Register LTI 1.3 / Advantage Tool.
- Enter the LearningLemur Client ID:

Blackboard automatically populates several configuration fields based on the Client ID.
4. Review the tool configuration:
- Review the auto-populated values.
- Confirm the Tool Name is recognizable (for example, LearningLemur).
- Ensure the tool is available to the appropriate contexts (such as courses or organizations).
- Adjust naming or visibility to match your institution's configuration standards.
5. Enable required services:
Enable the services required for the integration to work correctly.
Allow access to:
- User data (name and email, depending on institutional policy).
- Course and membership context.
- Assignments and Grades service (if you want grades returned to Blackboard).
Then:
- Locate the Status setting for the tool.
- Change the status to Approved.
6. Save the configuration:
- Click Submit or Save to finalize the configuration.
- LearningLemur should now appear as an approved LTI 1.3 tool in Blackboard.
7. Launch LearningLemur from a course:
- Open a Blackboard course where the tool should be available.
- Create a new assignment or activity.
- When selecting an External Tool, confirm that LearningLemur appears in the list.
- Select LearningLemur and continue the assignment setup.
Verify it worked
- LearningLemur appears as an External Tool when creating assignments in a Blackboard course.
- Launching the tool opens the LearningLemur interface inside Blackboard.
- If grade return is enabled, grades submitted in LearningLemur appear in the Blackboard gradebook.
Options and variations
- If your institution does not use Blackboard, you can integrate LearningLemur with other LMS platforms that support LTI 1.3, such as Canvas or D2L/Brightspace.
Common errors
LearningLemur does not appear as an external tool in courses.
Make sure the tool status is set to Approved and that it is enabled for the correct course contexts.
Grades are not returned to the Blackboard gradebook.
Verify that the Assignments and Grades service is enabled in the LTI configuration.
