Autoformat
Reading time: 1minReference for the automatic formatting features available in MathType.
Summary
Autoformat automatically replaces certain keyboard characters with their mathematical equivalents while you type. It also provides automatic pairing for common mathematical delimiters, making formula entry faster and reducing typing errors.
Autoformat is enabled by default in some MathType products and can be enabled or disabled through the editor parameters in other integrations.
Availability
| Product | Availability |

| MathType integrations | Configurable through the autoformat editor parameter |
Symbol replacement
Autoformat replaces certain keyboard characters with their typographically correct mathematical equivalents as they are typed.

The replacement happens immediately while typing, so the original character is never displayed.

Automatic delimiter pairing
When entering mathematical delimiters, MathType automatically inserts the corresponding closing delimiter. The following delimiter pairs are supported:

If you want to replace the automatically inserted closing delimiter, place the cursor immediately before it and type the desired closing character. This behavior only applies to the closing delimiter. To change the opening delimiter, insert a new delimiter pair. For example, to create an open-closed interval:

Configuration
Autoformat can be enabled or disabled using the autoformat editor parameter.
