Deploy Nubric for all teachers at your institution

Use this guide if you are a Google Workspace or LMS administrator and want to make Nubric available across your institution. This guide explains how to deploy Nubric for teachers and students through your existing educational platform and, where applicable, how teachers can subsequently join your institution’s Nubric organization.

After deployment, teachers can access Nubric through the configured platform, and students can open the activities assigned to them. However, deploying Nubric via Google Workspace or an LMS does not automatically add teachers to a Nubric organization or grant them access to its PRO features. Each teacher must be invited to the Nubric organization separately and accept the invitation.

Before you begin

Requirements

• Administrator access to your Google Workspace domain or LMS.
• Permission to install and manage third-party educational tools.
• Access to the Nubric deployment information required by your platform.
• The Admin role in the Nubric organization, if you also want to invite teachers to join it.

Steps

Deploy Nubric

Google Workspace deployment

1. Follow Google's official documentation to install and approve Nubric for your organization.
2. Confirm that Nubric is available to the teachers who should have access.
3. Verify that teachers can sign in to Nubric using their institutional Google accounts.

LMS deployment

1. Choose the deployment guide corresponding to your LMS:
   • Install Nubric in Blackboard via LTI.
   • Install Nubric in Canvas via LTI.
   • Install Nubric in D2L/Brightspace via LTI.
2. Complete the LTI 1.3 configuration using the platform-specific guide.
3. Verify that Nubric appears as an available external tool for instructors.

Invite teachers to the Nubric organization

If your institution has a Nubric organization, an organization Admin must invite each teacher who should have access to it:

1. Sign in to Nubric and open My center.
2. Select Invite members.
3. Enter the teacher's institutional email address and assign the appropriate role.
4. Send the invitation.
5. Ask the teacher to sign in using the invited email address and accept the invitation.

Repeat these steps for each teacher who should belong to the Nubric organization.

Confirm the teacher and student experience

1. Ask a teacher to launch Nubric from the configured platform.
2. Verify that the teacher can create or access quizzes.
3. If the teacher was invited to a Nubric organization, confirm that they have accepted the invitation and that the organization appears as their current center.
4. Confirm that students can access assigned activities through the LMS or Google Classroom.
5. Verify that students can successfully launch and complete Nubric activities.

Verify it worked

• Nubric appears as an available tool within the configured platform.
• Teachers can access Nubric using their institutional accounts.
• Teachers can create, manage, and assign Nubric quizzes.
• Teachers invited to the Nubric organization appear as members after accepting their invitations.
• Those teachers can access the features available through the organization.
• Students can launch assigned Nubric activities from their existing learning environment.

Options and variations

If you're using Google Workspace

Teachers can use Nubric with Google Classroom. Depending on your Google for Education plan, they may also be able to use the Nubric Google Classroom add-on directly from the assignment creation workflow.

If you're using Canvas

Once the LTI deployment is complete, teachers can launch Nubric as an External Tool directly from Canvas assignments without requiring a separate login.

If you're using Blackboard

Teachers can access Nubric from Blackboard courses and, if enabled, grades can be returned automatically to the Blackboard gradebook.

If you're using D2L/Brightspace

Teachers can launch Nubric through the External Learning Tool workflow and manage activities without leaving Brightspace.

Common errors

Teachers cannot see Nubric

The deployment may not be enabled for the appropriate users, courses, or organizational units. Review the visibility settings in your platform configuration.

Users cannot sign in

Your institution may restrict access to third-party applications. Verify that Nubric has been approved in accordance with your organization's security policies.

A teacher can access Nubric but does not have PRO features

Deploying Nubric through Google Workspace or an LMS does not automatically add the teacher to a Nubric organization. Confirm that an organization Admin invited the teacher and that the teacher accepted the invitation using the same email address.

A deployed teacher does not appear in My center

Platform deployment and organization membership are separate. The teacher appears in My center only after accepting an invitation to join the Nubric organization.

Nubric does not appear in Google Classroom

Your Google Workspace configuration or subscription may not support Classroom add-ons. If teachers encounter authorization issues, see Understanding Google Classroom permissions and restrictions in Nubric.

Security and deployment considerations

Nubric is designed to integrate with existing educational platforms using industry-standard authentication and interoperability mechanisms.

• Google Workspace deployments use Google's authorization and permission controls.
• LMS integrations are based on the LTI 1.3 standard.
• Administrators retain control over who can access Nubric and how it is deployed.
• Teachers and students continue working within the platforms already used by the institution.

Once deployed, Nubric can be rolled out confidently across your institution using the same administrative processes commonly used for other educational applications. Membership in a Nubric organization must be managed separately by one of its Admins.
