Versions previous to MathType 7 – MathType 6.x – are no longer commercialized or supported. It is highly recommended to upgrade to the latest version for security reasons. MathType 6.x will be deprecated on October 1, 2023.

MathType 6 for Windows

MathType 6.0 for Windows was released in July, 2007. The main reason for this release was to add support for the new Windows Vista OS, and Office 2007, with its new ribbon based user interface. The release also introduced many new features, most notable, the ability to enter TeX (and other TeX-like language variations) directly into MathType MathType 6.0a, 6.0b, and 6.0c for Windows were released over the next few months after MathType 6.0, to fix a variety of bugs.

MathType 6.5 for Windows

MathType 6.5 for Windows was released in December, 2008. New features introduced in 6.5 are: type TeX in Word and convert it to a MathType equation, convert Microsoft Word OMML equations, new keyboard shortcuts, translators for Maple, Mathematica, Physics Forum and more, and MathML import.

MathType 6.6 for Windows

MathType 6.6 for Windows was released in December, 2009. New features introduced in 6.6 are: Access to the new Windows 7 Math Input Panel from MathType and Microsoft Word, Evaluate MathType equations in Wolfram Alpha, New Translators, Updated User Interface, and more.

MathType 6.7 for Windows

MathType 6.7 for Windows was released in August, 2010. New features introduced are: support for Microsoft Office 2010, anti-aliased display, new translators and changes to the visual representation of spaces and selections with user defined colors as defined on the workspace preferences dialog.

MathType 6.8 for Windows

MathType 6.8 for Windows was released in May, 2012. New features introduced are: support for the 64-bit version of Microsoft Office, paste a table from a spreadsheet, document, or web page into MathType as a matrix, improvements to MathPage, and more.

MathType 6.9 for Windows

MathType 6.9 for Windows was released in November, 2012. New features introduced are: support for Windows 8 and Microsoft Office 2013, MathJax support in MathPage, and 77 additional "targets" into which it's possible to paste MathType equations, and more.
