Using LearningLemur within Blackboard
Reading time: 1minThis guide explains how to register and enable LearningLemur in Blackboard using LTI 1.3 / LTI Advantage. Once configured, instructors will be able to select LearningLemur when creating assignments in their courses, and grades can be returned to Blackboard.

Prerequisites
Before you start, make sure you have:
- Blackboard Administrator access
- The LearningLemur Client ID (provided by Wiris / LearningLemur)
- Permission to enable LTI tools and authorize required data sharing (user identity, course context, and grading services)
Step-by-step installation
1) Open the Blackboard Admin area
Log in to Blackboard as an administrator.
From the main navigation, go to Admin.

2) Navigate to LTI Tool Providers
In the Admin panel, locate the section for Integrations. Open LTI Tool Providers.

3) Register the LTI 1.3 / Advantage tool
Select Register LTI 1.3 / Advantage Tool.
In the registration form, enter the Client ID.
Continue to the next screen (Blackboard will auto-populate some fields based on the Client ID).

4) Review and update the tool configuration
Blackboard may fill in default values automatically. Review the configuration and update any fields if required by your internal standards (e.g., naming, availability, placement). At minimum, ensure:
The tool name is recognizable (e.g., LearningLemur).
The tool is available to the appropriate contexts (courses/organizations as needed).
5) Enable required data sharing and LTI services
To ensure LearningLemur works correctly (including user identification and grade return), enable access to:
User data (e.g., user identity / name / email, depending on your policy)
Course and membership context (to launch in the correct course)
LTI Advantage services needed for grade return, typically including: Assignments and Grades (grade passback)
Locate the tool Status setting.Change the status to Approved.

6) Submit and finalize
Click Submit / Save to apply the configuration.
Verify in a course
After registration:
- Go to a course where the tool should be available.
- Create a new assignment/activity (the exact menu depends on the course view).
- When choosing an External Tool, you should see LearningLemur available.
- Select LearningLemur and complete the assignment setup.
If grade return is enabled, grades submitted in LearningLemur should be able to sync back to the Blackboard gradebook for the corresponding assignment.
