Learning Lemur integration with D2L/Brightspace via LTI

Before you begin
Prerequisites
- You are familiar with D2L Brightspace administration.
- You understand basic LTI 1.3 concepts.
- You have received the Dynamic Registration Endpoint URL from Learning Lemur / Wiris.
Requirements
- D2L Brightspace Administrator access
- The Dynamic Registration Endpoint URL provided by Learning Lemur
Step 1 — Open External Learning Tools
Why: LTI tools must be registered at the administrator level before instructors can use them in courses.
- Log in to D2L Brightspace with an administrator account
- Go to Settings or Admin Tools (depending on your configuration)
- Open External Learning Tools
Checkpoint: You are inside the External Learning Tools configuration area.
Step 2 — Register the tool using Dynamic Registration
Why: Dynamic Registration establishes the secure LTI 1.3 connection between D2L Brightspace and Learning Lemur.
- Click Register Tool
- Select Dynamic (Dynamic Registration)
- Paste the Dynamic Registration Endpoint URL provided by WIRIS / Learning Lemur
- Click Register
Expected observation: D2L displays the tool details retrieved from Learning Lemur.
Checkpoint: Learning Lemur appears in the list of registered External Learning Tools.
Step 3 — Review tool configuration
Why: Ensures the tool is properly configured and available to instructors.
- Confirm the tool name appears as Learning Lemur (or your institutional naming standard)
- Review visibility and deployment settings
- Ensure the tool is enabled for the appropriate organizational units or courses
Checkpoint: The tool is active and enabled for the intended scope.
Step 4 — Verify the integration in a course
Why: Confirms that instructors can launch Learning Lemur when creating assignments.
- Open a test course
- Create a new Assignment
- In the submission or assessment settings, choose the option to use an External Learning Tool
- Confirm LearningLemur appears in the list
- Select Learning Lemur and launch it
Expected observation: Learning Lemur launches inside D2L via LTI 1.3.
