Wiris Quizzes Training is comprised of three courses: basic, intermediate, and advanced. We'll describe each of these courses in the following sections.

The Wiris Quizzes Basic Course is geared towards those who are new to Wiris Quizzes and wish to learn the essentials of creating and evaluating questions with mathematical content.

In the Basic course, you will learn the following:

  • CalcMe: The basic CalcMe commands.
  • Randomness: How to add randomness into the variables you use in the question, thus providing a different set of questions to each student.
  • Question types: The different question types available to you in Wiris Quizzes.

CalcMe commands

CalcMe is the computation and graphing engine at the heart of Wiris Quizzes, so learning to use CalcMe is fundamental. Before starting to generate variables and algorithms with CalcMe, it's important to learn its interface well. In the Basic course, you will learn how to use CalcMe's most simple commands and those which will be the most useful to you at the start.

Randomness

To enhance the questions you write, you can create variables with random values so each student will see a different question than other students.

Question types

When you create a question with Wiris Quizzes, it is important to know the different types of questions available so you can choose the most suitable one for the content you need to create. In the Basic course, you will see the different features of each question type, together with common use examples. You will learn how to add randomization into the creation of variables as well as other CalcMe tools.

You can choose from among several types of questions in Wiris Quizzes.

Wiris Quizzes intermediate course banner

The Wiris Quizzes Intermediate Course is geared towards those who already know a little about this powerful tool to create and evaluate questions of mathematical content, and wish to learn some of its more advanced features.

In the Intermediate course, you will learn the following:

  • CalcMe: Creating algorithms with CalcMe.
  • Validation: How do you want the question graded, and to what precision?

Moreover, by the end of the intermediate course, you will find a repository with 80 undergraduate questions that you can download, analyze and use in your own environment.

CalcMe algorithms

In this course, you'll see a detailed analysis of some of the more important algorithms available in CalcMe (create & represent functions and comprehension lists, to name two).

CalcMe algorithms are important to the successful use of Wiris Quizzes.

Validation

Create questions with validation parameters of the student's response. When you create a question, apart from the phrasing of it and the algorithm, it is important to consider what answers from the student you want to grade as correct, giving special attention to its value and its format. You can control these fields with the validation settings.

Questions repository

If you don't feel confident to create all the questions you have in mind yet, you don't have anything to worry about. In this section, we offer you a repository with 80 questions of different mathematical fields so you can inspire yourself or use it as we have written them in your classroom.

Anyway, if these questions are not enough for you, you can always enroll the extended version to complete the advanced course and the certification. We are sure you are not going to regret it.

Advanced Course banner

The advanced course in Wiris Quizzes is for those who have already mastered this powerful tool to create and evaluate questions of mathematical content and wish to deepen their more complex skills.

In the Advanced course, you will learn the following:

  • CalcMe programming: More advanced CalcMe techniques than were presented in previous courses.
  • Using the student's answer: How to use the student's answer to provide feedback and to link similar questions.
  • Grading: Options for grading a question.

Programming

Use programming tools when generating algorithms with CalcMe. To create lists, sets, variables, functions, and much more, it's essential to know the programming options of CalcMe.

Advanced CalcMe features

Student's answer

It's possible to use the student's answer in different sections of Wiris Quizzes. For example, you can maximize learning by giving specific feedback to the student depending on his or her answer to a question. You can also link different questions on a quiz using the random seed.

Providing feedback to the student

Grading functions

When editing a question, Wiris Quizzes offers a wide range of options to compare the student's answer with the correct answer. However, specific rules are sometimes necessary to determine if an answer is correct. It's the grading functions that make it possible to apply these rules. When you write the question, you define a formula that analyzes the student's answer and decides whether or not it is correct. By doing so, you open up more specific evaluations than those available on Wiris Quizzes' Validation tab.

Wiris Quizzes has many different options you can apply for grading the quiz.

After completing the courses, you'll have an opportunity to take a final exam to test your Wiris Quizzes competency. Upon passing this exam, we will provide you with a Wiris Quizzes certificate (Intermediate level or Advanced level, depending on the results) to recognize your capabilities.

The certification exam consists of 20 problems in which we evaluate your Wiris Quizzes general knowledge through two categories of exercises:

  • Writing algorithms in CalcMe
  • Creating Wiris Quizzes questions

The fee for the certification includes not only the exam but tutoring as well, apart from the advanced course. There will always be a person from WIRIS who will be able to help when questions arise, and who will support you during the certification.
