Wiris Accessibility Conformance Report
International Edition
VPAT® Version 2.2 — July 2018

Name of Product/Version

MathType Web

Product Description

MathType Web is part of the MathType suite of products to edit math equations and chemistry formulas in different technological set-ups. MathType Web is the online version of the generic product for a web application. This component is integrated with different web applications to edit equations easily. Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as CanvasMoodle, or Schoology or HTML editors like CKEditor or TinyMCE have plugins that easily integrate MathType. You can use one of our ready-to-use MathType integrations and MathType apps, or you can easily integrate MathType Web in your own environment using MathType SDK.

Notes:

MathType Web integrations

MathType Web app is integrated into a third-party environment. These are the ready-to-use integrations and apps for MathType Web by WIRIS:

  • HTML editors: TinyMCE, CKEditor, Froala
  • XML editors: OxygenXML
  • LMS: Canvas, Joomla, Moodle
  • Apps: add-in for Office, add-on for Google

Integrations for Blackboard, FontoXML, and Xeditor are also available, but WIRIS is not the author, so they are out of the scope of this report.

The integrations include a button or any other mechanism which launches a window (or similar) where MathType Web app is embedded. The equation image created is also integrated into the third-party environment.

WIRIS doesn’t have the same control over the different integrations, so this report covers:

  • accessibility features for MathType Web editor for all WIRIS integrations
  • accessibility features for the MathType Web integration environments which are the responsibility of WIRIS: HTML editors and Moodle integrations
  • accessibility features of MathType Web equation images in the integration environments which are the responsibility of WIRIS: HTML editors and Moodle integrations, Google Docs add-on.

MathType as a web-based application and as an authoring tool

MathType Web as a web-based application has these main features: Creating and editing math equations.

MathType Web lets you edit math equations using two editing modes:

  • Classic input mode uses symbols and templates from MathType's toolbar, combining them to build the equation.
  • Handwritten input mode lets you write the equation in your own handwriting. This input mode is an alternative input mode for the classic input. It is not intended to be used by users without vision or limited manipulation.

MathType Web as an authoring tool generates these products: Equation images.

Evaluation Methods Used

Visual inspection using assistive technologies. Testing is based on general product knowledge.

In order to ease the reading of this report, each cell in the column "Conformance Level" and "Remarks and Explanations" is divided into two rows, corresponding to applicable requirements scopes "Web" and "Authoring tool". For the third applicable scope, "Support Documentation", we have a separate MathType Support Documentation VPAT.

Requirements related to "Software", "Closed Functionality Software", "non-web document" or "Product Docs" don't apply because MathType Web is a web-based application, it is not a closed functionality software, and all its documentation is web.

This report covers the degree of conformance for the following accessibility standard/guidelines:
