MathType Error: Problem sending your equation preferences…

TechNote 155

Applicability

The information on this page applies to:

MathType 7 for Windows

Microsoft Word for Windows

Issue

Note

There is more than one possible cause for this error. If you have not assigned a keyboard shortcut to launch MathType 7 from Word, see our other article that addresses this error.

The possible cause for this error that's covered in this article is you've assigned a shortcut key in Word to launch MathType, but when you use the shortcut key, you get this error:

Reason

When you created the shortcut in Word, you applied the shortcut to the wrong macro.

Solution

  1. Open Word's Customize Keyboard dialogue as before. If you're unsure how to do this, click Word's File tab, then Options, Customize Ribbon (if you're not using a recent version of Word, the location for this may be slightly different but should be similar). Near the bottom left of the dialogue, click Keyboard shortcuts: Customize…

  2. In the Customize Keyboard dialogue, choose Categories: Macros. In the Commands list on the right, choose MTCommand_InsertEqn:

  3. Notice there's already a shortcut assigned: Alt+Ctrl+Q . It won't hurt anything to leave that one assigned. Click in the Press new shortcut key entry box and press the key you want. Note: Do not type ctrl for the Ctrl key, etc. Simply press the key.

  4. Click Assign, and click Close.
